Radhika Joshi-Ray is a senior disciple of Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar, a leading exponent of the Jaipur Atrauli Gharana. As a recipient of the Gurukul scholarship from the Society of Promotion of Indian Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY), Radhika had the privilege to study semi-classical forms of music such as Thumri, Dadra, Hori, Kajri and Chaiti from Smt Girija Deviji at the Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata. Radhika’s first Guru Smt. Padma Wadkar recognized talent in her and encouraged her to sing at various competitions and national level scholarship examinations.
Over the years, Radhika has evolved into a fine musician with a characteristic style of her own. The alaaps she renders in each Raga are a reflection of her deep thought on the various emotions and moods portrayed by various notes in a Raga. As a result, her music is a fine blend of both emotion and intellect.
In addition to her pursuits in music, Radhika has a masters in Economics from Tufts University, Boston and is presently pursuing a PhD in Economics at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
