Guru Poornima Gururaj

Poornima Gururaja is an exponent of the Pandanallur/Tanjore School of dance, a disciple of Guru Smt. Narmada who trained under the legendary Guru Sri Kittappa Pillai of Tanjore. She is the founder and artistic director of the Pallavi School of performing arts, based in Boston. She founded the Kalasindhu Academy of Dance and Related Arts in 2009. Poornima Gururaja holds an MBA from Brandeis University, USA and has worked as a marketing professional at Hewlett Packard. Early into her dancing career Poornima realised her extraordinary ability to teach this art form. She has trained several students in the Boston community presenting critically acclaimed arangetrams. Her students continue to perform and choreograph in the Boston area after Poornima’s move to Bangalore. Recognising her abilities, Guru Smt Narmada’s students continue to train with her. Poornima excels at not only propagating the art form but also inculcate in her students a cultural personality that makes them proud of their heritage.
